Protect Your Business from Facebook Scams: A Security Checklist

At K Marketing Co., we understand the importance of keeping your business safe online, especially on social media platforms like Facebook. Scammers are always looking for new ways to exploit vulnerabilities, and staying vigilant is key. While Facebook works hard to protect your information, there are steps you can take to further secure your accounts and prevent fraudulent activity.

Prevention is Key:

By utilizing the following points, you can help keep your account secure against fraud:

  • Run a security checkup: Use Facebook's built-in Security Checkup Tool to ensure your account is properly configured.

  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA): This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a code from your phone in addition to your password when logging in. Make sure everyone on your team with account access has 2FA enabled.

  • Beware of Phishing Emails: Scammers often use spoofed email addresses that appear legitimate. Look for typos, misspellings, or unfamiliar email domains. Legitimate Facebook emails will come from addresses ending in: facebookmail.com, facebook.com, instagram.com, fb.com, meta.com, or metamail.com.

  • Strong Passwords are Essential: Use complex passwords or passphrases that are unique to each account. Never reuse passwords across multiple sites. You may also want to consider having a password manager to keep your complex passwords in one secure spot.

  • Stay Informed: Turn on business notifications and log in alerts from Facebook. These can help you identify suspicious activity quickly.

What to Do If You've Been Scammed:

Unfortunately, scams do happen. If you suspect your account has been compromised, take action immediately:

  • Report suspicious messages: If you receive a strange message on Messenger, click on the "..." menu next to the sender's name and report it as "pretending to be another business."

  • Review your activity log: Check your activity log for any unauthorized posts, likes, or follows. You can easily unlike and delete any unwanted content.

  • Secure your account: Reset your password and log out of all devices to regain control of your account. If you're locked out, follow Facebook's steps to recover your account.

By following these steps, you can significantly reduce the risk of scams impacting your Facebook business presence. Remember, staying informed and taking the initiative to secure your accounts is essential for online success.
